Apparently (the internet tells me so) about 40,000 new songs are uploaded to music streaming services every day.
Not all of these songs will be of the highest quality, and many more will belong to genres that a given individual won't be interested in, but with that much new music being released every day there should be a constant stream of great new music for everyone to listen to . (No matter what sort of music you're into.)
But how to find the music you like the most amongst the deluge? In years gone by there were songs I like regularly popping up in the Top 40 charts or on Countdown, but those days are long long gone. (OK - I get that I'm old and music tastes change over time, but I have a hard time believing the dross currently dominating the top ten is significantly better than the 280,000 odd other tunes released in the past week.)
Most streaming services group new releases by genre, and others have a crack at suggesting new music based on the songs already in your library or those you've liked, and it's possible to find a few hidden gems that way - I've managed to find a dozen or songs I really like in the past year, but there must be more. Even if only one song in 10,000 appeals to me that's over a thosand a year I should like. Surely I must like If even only 1 in 10,000 0.01% of songs that are created each year are of potential interest to me that would mean I should be really liking more than 1000 songs every year.
